Advocating for Social Change in Nursing: A Responsibility and Passion
Imagine that there is an advancement opportunity at your facility. You and many of your fellow nurses are
interested in it. There is so much interest, in fact, that the administration needs help to narrow down the
candidates. They have decided to ask each candidate to respond to a series of prompts about advocacy and social change which will help inform the decision.
You have options for delivering your responses to the administration, and you want to ensure that your
application stands out to the decision-makers. You may choose to use PowerPoint or Word to display your responses, or you can utilize a web-based application like Adobe Spark or Padlet (see below). You are not limited to these apps, but you must make sure that your exported files are accessible for your Faculty SME and that your presentation is professional and creative.
Address the following in your response:
Describe one health-related positive social change area or topic that is most important to you and how you are working to positively impact this area or topic.
Read the study Six Distinct Types of Social Change Agents. Explain how the current social change agent types reflect your current social change efforts. Explain how the current social change agent types might reflect your future social change goals.
Defend the following statement: Advocating for social change is the responsibility of the nursing professional.
