Animal Collection Design

Animal Collection Design Animal Design Report You are an animal enclosure designer and have to produce a scientific report comparing the management of two zoological collections with regards to design. One collection should be found nationally (within the U.K.) and the second international. Learning outcomes tested 1. Describe and compare the development, diversity and logic of four contemporary animal collections and the current national and international legislative framework within which they must operate. 2. Analyse and evaluate approaches towards the housing, presentation, management and use of example collection species. 3. Explain the husbandry needs & requirements within an animal collection. 4. Evaluate the resource needs, customer care and visitor management required within an animal collection. Structure of report: Title: Title of the report. Contents Page: List the sections of your report. List the tables, figures, images. Introduction: Brief introduction on the two collections which will be reviewed. Literature Review: A comparison and evaluation is required on how two animal collections are designed at a national and international level which impacts the management of the collection. While evaluating the design ensure you should use named species (enclosures) as examples for both zoological collection focusing on at least 1 species enclosure for each zoo. You will need to compare/evaluate the following for BOTH zoological collections: International/national agreements the collection are following Legislation the collections follow The housing design of named species with (indoor/outdoor design and how it is linked with husbandry) Visual presentation/impact of enclosures How the enclosure design impacts animal welfares (use specific examples-link with husbandry) How the enclosure design impacts staff (use specific examples-link with husbandry) How the enclosure design impacts visitors Guidance Notes: Ensure you apply theories/historical designs of animal enclosures which may have influenced the design of the zoological collections evaluated. (E.g. the use of the moat as a barrier has been developed by the historical design of the ‘ha-ha’. Ensure you link the points required with husbandry regimes.) Conclusion
