According to APA format, any references listed in the reference section must be cited in the paper…..no exceptions. It is important to realize that there is no one best way to prepare a case, but the following approach will provide guidance in developing your case analysis paper. I would recommend using the questions to develop topical headings for the paper. Ask yourself the following questions: • What is the background to this case study in terms of James Holmes’ life, upbringing, and behavior preceding the massacre? • Why is this case significant from a behavioral and security management perspective? Be specific and detailed. How does it relate to what you have learned from course material presented in the course? • What established theories (referring to theories supported in whole or in part by scientific research) in the course textbooks could be used to understand the behavioral issues of James Holmes? Use your basic research skills to confirm your beliefs, opinions, and convictions. This paper is not be an opinionated paper, but rather a paper that demonstrates your skill and ability to use sound and basic research skills to research the case and offer meaningful, substantive, relevant, and well reasoned responses to the questions asked. • Was the response to the shooting by the theater staff and law enforcement appropriate to the circumstances of the situation? Explain. What did they do right…what did they do wrong? • What are the legal and ethical considerations in this incident? • What learning outcomes are relevant to this case study? • What controls or prevention methods for such incidents are suggested and/or supported by research? What are the lessons learned from this incident? What can be extrapolated or extended from this particular shooting that may have more general or universal value to security professionals? • From a security management perspective, do you think this crime could have been prevented or mitigated? If so, explain. Be specific and detailed. • Finally, what are the long-term implications for business owners and security professionals as it relates to the Aurora Colorado theater shooting and subsequent investigative findings?
