Beginning the Interdisciplinary Research Process

1: Define the problem or state the research question. 2: Justify using an interdisciplinary approach. 3: Identify relevant disciplines Part 1: Give your two Areas of Study (AOS) and list the graduate classes that you have taken for each. These will be the Areas of Study that will be used for your interdisciplinary research. STEP 3: Identify relevant disciplines. Primary AOS and 12 hours graduate classes: ____________________________________________ Secondary AOS and 9 hours graduate classes: ____________________________________________ Part 2: Now we may be going through STEPS a little bit out of order, but that’s ok. For this class we have to limit the relevant disciplines to your two Areas of Study as listed above. But we can continue with the STEPS 1 and 2. STEP 1: Define the problem or state the research question. STEP 2: Justify using an interdisciplinary approach. As you discuss STEPS 1 and 2, include supporting material from Chapters 3 and 4 in your discussion. State a research topic that will benefit from research and integration of your two Areas of Study. Is your research problem complex? Discuss the guidelines for research questions found in Chapter 3 and apply them to your topic. Does your topic require insight from your two Areas of Study? What do your two Areas of Study have to offer in finding insight into this problem?
