Describe for me the basic facts of how John Stark and Scott Joplin came together, then explain to me, in simple but clear terms, the central points of the music publishing deal entered into between Joplin and Stark. Explain to me how this deal would look different today. Imagine a modern music publishing deal between a songwriter in Joplin's position and a music publisher like John Stark. Who might some modern versions of these two characters be in 2022? Why? If this deal were to happen today, which type of deal would they likely enter, and what would the terms look like? What provisions would be present today which were absent in Joplin's deal? Also, how might the deal-making process today be similar or different? Why?
