Citizen of ancient Egypt in the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV

Imagine you were a citizen of ancient Egypt in the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV also known as Ahkenaton (reigned 1353 -1336 B.C.). Amenhotep/Ahkenaton was controversial because he abandoned the polytheism of Egypt’s many gods and embraced the worship of only one god, the Sun God, Aton. He also moved the Egyptian capital from Thebes on the Nile River to a new capital to the East of Thebes at Armana. If you were a priest in ancient Egypt would you have been comfortable with Amenhotep’s decision to get rid of Egypt’s traditional gods in favor of only one deity? What if you were an average Egyptian, running a farm or raising a family. How might you have reacted to this jarring change? Might you not wish to emulate the Hebrews who had only one God? Wasn’t Amenhotep really ahead of his time, given the eventual success of monotheism in most of the Western World? What role was played by Ahkenaton’s wife Neferiti and Tutenkhamun? BE SPECIFIC.
