Create an idea for your digital crime scene
My idea right now is for bank robbery
Assignment Description
Creating a realistic/believable digital crime scene is not an easy task and you will want to get started
early. This assignment will help get you thinking about possible scenarios that you can mock up on a
VM.
In the real world, evidence accumulates on a computer in an organic fashion. This includes things such
as web cookies, browsing history, $MFT and other journal entries, registry entries, files, directories,
computer activity including logons, logoffs, timestamps, possible thumb drive and other digital device
connections. You will have to work hard to try and get evidence of your fictitious crime into the right
evidence areas where it can be reasonably found in an investigation. You will mainly do this by
simulating as close as possible the actual crime. (Do not commit any actual crimes, please.)
For this assignment, you will submit a description of a the digital crime scene that
you would like to create. Describe what crime is being committed, what evidence you might place on the
computer. You do have to know yet how you might get that evidence on the computer.
Discuss the crime. Discuss what kinds of evidence you might leave on the computer VM you will be
using. Pictures, emails, texts, chats, timestamps, files, documents, browsing history, GPS data, device
connections, etc.
