Duality in Jekyll and Hyde

Task: In Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Jekyll states, “man is not truly one, but truly two.” For your final paper, write a 7-to-10-page essay that explores the duality of Jekyll/Hyde in the final section of the novella (“Henry Jekyll’s Full Statement of the Case”) and what it might reveal about human nature.
Do not use “I” or “you.”
Do not refer to the essay itself.
You are required to use a minimum of three of the following five sources:

  1. “Sources about the Literary Double and Duality in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”
  2. “The Anatomy of Dr Jekyll” by Irving S. Saposnik
  3. “Dr. Jekyll and the Emergence of Mr. Hyde” by Masao Miyoshi
  4. “Jekyll / Hyde” by Joyce Carol Oates
  5. “The Duality of Moral Responsibility in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by William Fitzgerald
Essay Structure: Provide a formal introduction, a thesis that makes a specific claim about the duality of Jekyll/Hyde
and what it might reveals about human nature, body paragraphs that include analysis of specific text from the novel—
as well as your outside source— and a conclusion that shows your reader, based on your body paragraphs, the duality
of Jekyll/Hyde and what it might reveal about human nature.
