One of the most important themes in Frankenstein is education. Walton listens attentively to Victor in part to take some lesson from his story. Victor describes in detail his early education, his classes and teachers at the University of Ingolstadt, and the knowledge he must gain in order to assemble his creation. And the monster shares with Victor his early education, how he learns to survive in the woods, the books he discovers, and the way he eventually acquires the ability to speak and read. Analyze the ideas of Romantic education and knowledge in the novel. How does the novel represent education and the achievement of knowledge? What kinds of education are shown? Do the characters learn? What and how do they learn? Is their knowledge beneficial, or not? Since this is a rather broad topic, you’ll want to focus it as much as possible. Examine one or two characters, or a specific section or scene in the novel. Define the parameters of your topic carefully from the outset
