Research Paper
For this assignment, students will write an 8 (minimum) – 12 (maximum) page essay (double spaced and
in 12-point font) that engages with a problem or question relevant to Environmental Sociology and to the
course topics. Students may choose to discuss a topic from one sociological perspective covered in the
course (use internal colonialism) or they may choose to compare and contrast numerous perspectives when discussing their chosen
topic. The papers must include a minimum of 2 course readings as well as a minimum of 5 and a
maximum of 7 additional academic journal articles or book chapters.
Academic articles must be peer reviewed journal articles (blogs, Wikipedia, or other online sources are
not appropriate).
If your paper discusses a recent news event (e.g., the recent hurricane on Canada’s east coast) you may
include a news article from a reputable source (make sure to cite it and add it to your reference list).
