Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans

Read the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. Then, choose one of the following research proposals below, and describe what the ethical implications of each might be, in terms of conducting research, by referring to this document and to your readings. In explaining the ethical implications, you might want to focus on the ethical consideration in data collection, data analysis, and treatment of study subjects.

First, you will be required to select one of the two topics below:

1. You are proposing research to observe a public park where people frequently walk their dogs to determine the characteristics of those who stoop and scoop and those who do not
2. You create a survey for your classmates to determine attitudes towards unprotected sexual behaviors.

Second, you will need to review the TCPS.

Then you need to go to the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans – TCPS 2 (2022) - TCPS 2: CORE-2022 (tcps2core.ca)
Review the TCPS, with a particular focus on the following chapters:

1. Chapter 1: Ethics Framework
2. Chapter 2: Scope and Approach
3. Chapter 3: The Consent Process
4. Chapter 5: Privacy and Confidentiality
5. Chapter 10: Qualitative Research

Third, you will need to discuss applying the TCPS guidelines with your selected study.

The structure of the report should be as follows:
Introduction: Discuss the purpose of the TCPS & why it is important to follow their guidelines in research.
Keep in mind the following: The selection of your data collection instrument will impact how you will apply the TCPS guidelines.
The main body of the report: In this section, you apply the various guidelines from the chapters to your selected topic and data collection instrument.
You should pay attention to the issue of privacy and confidentiality as well as consent
Conclusion: Summary points from your paper

Proposals
You are proposing research to observe a public park where people frequently walk their dogs to determine the characteristics of those people who stoop-and-scoop and those people who do not.
You are creating a survey for your classmates to try to determine attitudes towards unprotected sexual behaviours.
Present your findings as an academic paper of 1,300 words (+/- 50 words), but not less than 1250 word count, not including counting the words on the title page or references. Your paper should follow APA formatting (headers, page numbers, referencing, etc.) and include 8. academic/scholarly references.
