Expatriates

Expatriates ("ex-pats") are workers from one country that are doing their assignment in another country. Expatriate "life" can be challenging and rewarding, but it can also be difficult and frustrating. On pages 486-493 of the textbook, the discussion is mostly about how the company hires, evaluates, and compensates their expat workers - how SHOULD they do those things, according to the text? Why is it so expensive to have a person work in another country? CNBC recently published a list of the ten countries where expats seem to thrive the most, based on Expat Insider data. Choose the most interesting country (to you) on the list and Google "expat life in __" (insert the country of your choice - NOTE! this is one of the only times it is okay to use 1st-person writing in this class - in this section only - because you are reporting about your own preferences, briefly). What are the upsides and downsides of working as an expat in that country, according to the most credible source you can find? Do not rely on tourist-y or marketing-oriented sites in your research.
