Facts about motivational interviewing to help people quit smoking
Understanding the role of Evidenced Based Practice is crucial in the field of social work. On the scheduled weeks, 2 students working together will be responsible for presenting 1 peer reviewed journal article published within the last 3 years that highlights evidenced based practice happening in the field related to the theoretical approach being presented that week. Students will be expected to provide a link to the article they have selected one week in advance of their presentation date and this article will be included in the required reading for the entire class. It is imperative that all students read the journal article and come to class prepared for group discussion. Students presenting will have 5 minutes to briefly review and summarize the article. They will then be expected to facilitate a 15-minute class discussion. The discussion may revolve around what you and your peers found interesting or not, how it relates to other learning in the course and what it means for future practice. This will also help students begin to build a library of relevant journal articles related to work in the field. Students can sign up for dates on the course website. Students will be graded on their ability to select a relevant article, co-present clearly to the class within the time frame and facilitate meaningful discussion.
A short power point or Prezi presentation (3-4 slides) is recommended.
