Field experience

Due to Covid-19, you have an option to complete your field experiences by observing videos if you are unable to visit an educational facility. This field experience will be a combination of videos and activities created by the professor. Follow the directions below for this assignment:

Answer the following questions for each section:

  1. What theories did you observe through watching the videos? Be specific with mentioning the theories and where you observed them. You should include a description of at least three theories. Be sure to describe what was happening in the video that allowed you to connect it to these three theories. You can reference all or some of the videos.
  2. Describe at least three specific strategies that you noted in the videos that you can use in your classroom. What makes you believe that these strategies will be effective in your classroom? How will these strategies impact teaching and learning.
  3. Was there anything in the videos that surprised you? Explained why you were surprised by this in the video. If nothing surprised you explained why and how you would improve parts of the video.
  4. What did you observe that you would not include in your classroom? Why would you not include this into your classroom?
  1. What theories did you observe through watching the videos?
I observed three theories in the videos:
  • Constructivism: This theory states that learners construct their own knowledge through experiences and interactions. I saw this theory in action in the video on kindergarten math, where the teacher was using manipulatives to help the students learn about numbers. The students were able to physically manipulate the objects and see how they related to each other, which helped them to construct their own understanding of numbers.
  • Social constructivism: This theory states that learning is a social process that occurs through interaction with others. I saw this theory in action in the video on high school social studies, where the teacher was leading a discussion with the students about modern day segregation. The students were able to share their own experiences and perspectives, which helped them to learn from each other.
  • Differentiated instruction: This theory states that teachers should provide different learning experiences for different students in order to meet their individual needs. I saw this theory in action in the video on ELL strategies, where the teacher was using a variety of techniques to help her students who were learning English as a second language. The teacher was providing different levels of support for different students, which helped them to all succeed.
  1. Describe at least three specific strategies that you noted in the videos that you can use in your classroom.
Here are three specific strategies that I noted in the videos that I can use in my classroom:
  • Use manipulatives: I saw how effective manipulatives can be for helping students learn math concepts. I plan to use manipulatives in my own classroom to help students construct their own understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Lead discussions: I saw how effective discussions can be for helping students learn about social studies concepts. I plan to lead discussions in my own classroom to help students share their own experiences and perspectives, and to learn from each other.
  • Use differentiated instruction: I saw how effective differentiated instruction can be for helping students who are learning at different levels. I plan to use differentiated instruction in my own classroom to ensure that all of my students are successful.
  1. Was there anything in the videos that surprised you? Explained why you were surprised by this in the video. If nothing surprised you explained why and how you would improve parts of the video.
I was surprised by the high level of engagement in the kindergarten math video. The students were so excited to be using the manipulatives and learning about numbers. I was also surprised by the level of participation in the high school social studies video. The students were really engaged in the discussion and were eager to share their own perspectives. I would not change anything about the kindergarten math video. It was a great example of how to use manipulatives to engage students in learning. However, I would have liked to see more discussion in the high school social studies video. I think the students would have benefited from having more opportunities to share their own perspectives and to learn from each other.
  1. What did you observe that you would not include in your classroom? Why would you not include this into your classroom?
I would not include the use of corporal punishment in my classroom. I believe that all students deserve to be treated with respect, and that corporal punishment is not an effective way to discipline students. I would instead use positive reinforcement and other non-punitive techniques to help students learn and behave appropriately.

Sample Solution

Constructivism: This theory states that learners construct their own knowledge through experiences and interactions.
