Film analysis

Write a short essay analyzing the use of a cinematic or narrative technique (or set of techniques) in one of the following films: Children of Men, Xala, Once upon a Time in China. The analysis must examine how a technique (or techniques) is employed to create a specific effect or to express a particular theme. 1. Does the introduction and the thesis statement present a clear roadmap of the paper as a whole, specifying the particular techniques to be analyzed and the effects that they are supposed to achieve? 2. Is the thesis arguable, or does the paper set out to prove an obvious point? 3. Does it succeed in capturing what is specific about the cinematic or narrative techniques that it analyzes? Or does the paper make claims about the use of cinematic techniques in a particular film that could be applied any film or any technique? For example, “In Once upon a Time in China, montage is used to appeal to the audience.”
