Future Money and Central Banks: A Critical Analysis of the Potential Implications

Future Money and Central Banks: A Critical Analysis of the Potential Implications Order Description The term paper gives students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of a specific topic and enhance their research and writing skills. The subject can be a critical review of the scientific literature or a replication of an empirical study, related to an analysis of monetary policies.Students are encouraged to start working on the paper early. The choice of the topic must be approved by the Professor by March 2, at the latest. Students can submit several drafts of their paper to improve the paper’s quality. However, the final version is due on April 6, 2017. According to the course syllabus, a research paper topic should be selected by Thursday (March 2nd). The paper can be either a critical review of the literature on a topic related to monetary economics or an empirical replication study. For the next class, please prepare to discuss 1. A research question that you would like to address in your paper; 2. Why this question is worth studying, and how it is related to the course; 3. What possible answers you expect to find. Your research topic needs to get my approval. To this end, I would like to have short meetings with all students who have not discussed their topics with me yet this week. My regular office hours are from 2:30 to 3:30 on Thursday and 1:15 to 2:15 on Friday. I would be available for the meetings during other times on Friday. Please e-mail me to set up the times during which we could finalize your topic. If you have not picked out your topic yet, then I could suggest looking through the course topics, consulting the website with research priorities set by the Bank of Canada at https://www.bankofcanada.ca/research/ or browsing recent publications of Federal Reserves Banks of the United States. Written responses to questions 1 to 3 above will be due next Tuesday, March 7th.
