Gender identification

  1. How would you describe gender identification based on the literature?
  2. What are some of your earliest memories and messages you were sent about the differences between genders?
  3. What messages did you receive about how boys and girls ought to be socialized?
  4. What are the long-term implications of sex-segregated play for the development of gender-role attitudes and behavior?
  5. Being that society is becoming more aware of the many facets of gender, including non-binary and transgender, what are the implications of these changes in the development of children as well as children who are transgender or may not fit the gender binary.
  6. Seeing that the rate of suicide attempts of transgender youth is roughly 40%, reflect on the social justice issues related to this.
