How does action affect visual perception in children? Research Proposal
My project research will be based upon how action affects visual perception in people. Bruner and colleagues believed that when a person is motivated to act on a goal object, the object is perceived to be bigger than it otherwise would be, which makes it stand out amongst other objects in the environment (Bruner, 1957; Bruner & Postman, 1949). Current research does not answer definitively how or why planning an action affects object perception in people. What types of experiences in life cause the system to get built up this way? What are the consequences of having or not having these types of overlapping representations at different stages of childhood?
