Impressionism and Post-Impressionism

  As we move into the end of the 1800s, Paris is beginning to understand itself as modern. What do you think this might mean? How do you see the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists dealing with the idea of modernity (that is, being modern)? Do you see similar discussions about our world today? Use specific artworks as examples, and think about the subjects that these artists paint, as well as how they are painting those subjects.
