All of Canada is covered by Territories of Indigenous peoples who live and have lived on these lands since time immemorial. Within these Indigenous Territories are Treaties that have been signed by the British Crown (and later the Canadian government) with diverse Indigenous Nations. These treaties give all people in Canada Treaty Rights and we actively use these rights every single day, whether we are conscious about it or not. The treaties are the very reason why we are able to live in the places that are significant to us. However, many of these places are Un-ceded Territory (I.e., have no treaty and have not been sold or surrendered to the Canadian Government).
For all peoples, where we live or have lived creates a sense of grounding to place for us. They shape who we are as individuals and our associated identities. These places we feel connected to or love to visit are home to Indigenous peoples from different Indigenous Nations.
