In Essay 4 you’re moving up in critical thinking. Here you’ll be analyzing several authors’ arguments about one issue, synthesizing and evaluating their premises and conclusions, and developing your own argument. You may be using premises from multiple sources, but your thesis should be your own unique viewpoint about the controversy you’re studying.
Analyze both of the articles included in the chapter of your group analysis topic. Discuss the multiple points of view presented in the assigned readings and then develop a cogent argument for your particular stance. This stance can be the same as your group’s stance or different. In addition to the authors you are assigned to read, you may use information from outside readings in peer-reviewed or government agency sources to develop your argument.
You may make notes, an outline containing your thesis and list of premises, and a works cited list ahead of time, but you will write your final essay in class.
