  Research Paper You will be provided in week 11 with several candidate questions that you can use for your Research Paper. The paper will be approximately 2400 words. You will need to create the paper in an essay format. The paper will be due at the end of the semester. (Date: TBA ) It is sometimes also known as a take-home examination. With any original work you will need to demonstrate an understanding of how to reference all materials that you have used. Your workshop teacher can also give you guidance on this. NB. Specific time cutoffs etc will be confirmed when released in week 11 This Assessment Task relates to the following Learning Outcomes: • Analyse a range of important and/or current IT & IS issues, such as: - Hardware (including basic principles and which platform is right for me) - The importance of Social Networks Analysis - Networks and Telecommunication Systems - Multimedia - Privacy - Security - Ethics - Electronic Commerce - Productivity Applications - Social Aspects of Information Technology - Green IT. • A competence with basic information technology applications, including basic computer management, e-mail, web browsers, web-page creators and productivity software and an understanding of how such applications work, to a level where students can learn new material without requiring formal training. • Describe the key trends of information technology and the implications for individuals, organisations and society. (Hard Copy due in the submission boxes on the ground floor of 9WW (Formerly E6A) Hard copy submission must be made before 6.00pm to avoid a late penalty. Questions: Your job is to complete one of the following research questions: (You are to only answer one question) 1) The digital divide has been improving for the last 3 years but not fast enough to some. What initiatives have been helping and what could be done to make things happen even faster? 2) “Facebook has been in the firing line for the last 12 months when it comes to data privacy, now it would seem Google is to follow suit.” Discuss whether we can truly blame these organisations for data mining when we are willing to share our information online. 3) Internet Censorship has changed over the last 5 years. Considering this, discuss how censorship can be used for positive and negative effects in society. 4) With so much discussion about ransomware in the media in recent times discuss how safe is our data? 5) Green IT must be at the forefront of our thinking because we have and dispose of so many powered devices. Are organisations actively trying to offset this? (Limit your research examples to the last 5 years) 6) While many people are embracing cryptocurrencies, many governments around the world are banning them. Discuss why this is the case. Submission Details: You will need to submit your paper to turnitin before submitting it in the submission boxes in 9WW (old e6a building). (It takes 24 hrs in most cases to receive a response from turnitin) Remember your research paper must be your own work. Therefore, your research paper must be submitted to Turnitin via our ilearn page first then a hard copy. Please note that when submitting your research paper in hard copy you must include the following:  Turnitin% (you can print screen this)  MQ cover sheet with student ID number, tutorial/class etc.  Link available on ilearn to generate the coversheet Any submission not containing a cover sheet and turn it in % will not be considered for marking. You are responsible for assessing its level of plagiarism. Although you can submit the report to Turnitin as many times as you like before the due date, only the final submission will count to Turnitin. Any Turnitin Report with 15%+ plagiarism will be carefully reviewed and marks deducted equivalent to the percentage. Research Paper Formatting Guidelines: - Word Length: Approximately 2400 words (penalties apply for being more than 10% over this, and more than 10% under this number. - 1 ½ spacing. (Between Paragraphs) - 12 pt font - Double sided (save some paper) - Verdana - Referencing Style: Harvard or APA is satisfactory. Do not use footnotes. - Please remember that you will need to have at least Four (4) varying references. For example: eJournals, WebPages, eNewspaper articles and eTextbooks - You will need to include: Reference List and an Appendix. Exclude these two things from your turnitin submission to help you stay below the 15% similarity threshold. - You must include a coversheet that is available on the ISYS100 ilearn page. Late Submission No exceptions will be granted. Any late research paper will receive a 10% penalty per business day. Anything later than 4 business days will not be marked.
