Part 2 - Career Research and Reflection
1) In your own words, explain difference between hard and soft skills. What are common hard skills required to work in your future career field? What are common soft skills needed within your future career field? How do these commonly requested hard and soft skills of this career "fit" your personality, talents and skills?
2) How might meeting with a career coach help you (a practice of interdependence)? How might a Career Coach serve as a resource for you as a part of your successful support network? Hint: Visit the Career Connections and Employer ConnectionsLinks to an external site. page for more information. For example, maybe a Career Coach might be able to address gaps in your skills and help you find ways to address these. Or, maybe they can help you with your resume and cover letter to highlight the skills you have in connection to your career field.
If you would like to meet one-on-one with an Ivy Tech Career Coach, here's are the steps to schedule an appointment:
• Call 317-921-4881 OR
• Schedule online within MyIvy: Choose the Schedule an Appointment with Advisor icon in the QuickLinks area.
Select: Your Services - Central Indiana Career Coaching - Choose a Coach and make an appointment for yourself on the coach’s calendar.
3) School is a safe place to practice both hard and soft skills to build confidence in the areas we're still working on. In paragraph-format, answer the following questions about growth mindset from Chapter 7:
•
o Describe the difference between growth and fixed mindsets.
o Provide examples of each that you've seen in your own education or life.
o There are four ways to develop a growth mindset listed under the Chapter 7 heading of "How to Develop a Growth Mindset". Describe how you will apply one of those ways of developing a growth mindset at work OR school.
