Explore a cultural sport production (sport/game/human movement) of a nation linked to the students’ personal ethnicities and histories. Students will develop:
1) overview of national history
2) overview the rules of the sport/game and its historical importance
3) overview of the cultural importance of the sport
4) overview expressions of cultural values in sport/game/human movement
5) explore how this cultural product has influenced their personal/familial sport experiences and sport identities,
6) its relation to and impact on US sport/games/human movement.
List the country you will focus on: Taiwan
List the sport you will discuss: Baseball
List the time period your narrative will cover: Around 1895-1945 because that was the period because that the time when Japanese first introduced baseball to Taiwan.
List the theories you will use: Intersectionalism theory
List the country where this sport was developed: Baseball originated in North America, and it became famous later on in East Asia, especially in Japan and Taiwan.
List why you chose it: Because I would like to learn more about my country's national sport! Plus my dad used to play baseball when he was young. I was never a big fan of baseball, but something wonderful happened during this summer that totally changed my point of view on baseball!
