“Kool and the Next Awesome Gang” or KNAG.

You’ve been asked to conduct a study about the new concert tour of a new band called “Kool and the Next Awesome Gang” or KNAG. KNAG tours by bus from city to city. They typically drive for a day, then spend a day setting up at the next concert venue, practicing, doing sound checks and performing. Before or after each show they have receptions for VIPs or back-stage-pass holders, taking pictures, consuming refreshments, and seeing what interesting people they might meet. The band is very interested in their fans and connects with many of these people via social media. They then are known to obsess over concert pictures and other personal posts that these fans they meet post to their social media using @KNAG or #KNAG. There are 5 band members. Each one reacts a little differently to the social media. The responses range from one member who seems to collect favorite fans in each city and spends time posting personal messages to those fans to another member who hires a PR assistant to handle his social media and give him a report of the overall tenor of his social media of the day. Two band members spend road time talking about their social media regularly, while the last member tries to find posts in social media that will inspire the next hit single for the band. Of course, they also get fan mail by postal service, have to change phone numbers once in a while because somehow their phone numbers get shared publicly, and will have a small group of fans find their bus at various road stops to try to get autographs and physically meet them. Now that you have been introduced to this band, you have the special privilege of spending the summer on the road with them. You get to ride in their bus, have full back-stage credentials for all concerts, and all band members know you probably want to see their social media posts and other fan correspondence, though some are more forthcoming than others with their willingness to share. Still, you can search using their hashtags to see their non-private messages. For your research, you plan to include information about the group’s communication with their fans. Describe the steps of the scientific method and how it will be specifically implemented in this research. Describe the purpose of the study in one sentence. Describe what research methodology you’d use for analyzing the fan relationships with band members based on all of the access you have during the summer. What evidence will you gather and examine, how, and why? Describe in detail the process of 1) analyzing that evidence, and 2) writing the analysis in such a way that the reader can be convinced about the reliability and validity of your analysis. Make sure you discuss why you chose the methodology. Make sure to use specific terminology and descriptions of your method that shows you recognize nuances in how scholarly approach to qualitative or quantitative research. Remember: • Proofread your work • Use your notes and textbook as a reference • If you are using outside sources-CITE! • Submit the paper in APA format. Include an abstract.
