It is very important for teachers to be aware of the potential areas of difficulty for students. Remembering that a disability effects every student differently, there are some common pitfalls. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of how students with high incidence disabilities differ from typically developing students in their acquisition of language components.
Directions:
Step 1 - Closely examine the provided website for listed language components.
Define each language component.
Discuss how this area may affect a child’s listening, speaking, hearing or writing.
Provide 1 example.
Step 2 – Closely examine and identify the speech and language characteristics of typical learners.
Identify skills a learner with typical development should be able to perform in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Step 3 – Closely examine the characteristics, strengths, and areas of difficulty for each of the high incidence disabilities listed on the Matrix.
Identify potential areas of difficulty for each of the disabilities.
