How i plan to meet the legal needs of underserved regions in Appalachia/United States
“approximately 500 words to discuss why you believe that your admission to law school and your anticipated admission to the bar after graduation will further the mission to meet the legal needs of underserved regions in Appalachia and throughout the United States”
a few ideas I have stewed on, all of it doesn’t need or have to be included and am happy to include other ideas: I have solidified a desire for human dignity, solidarity, and social justice. I want to use my legal knowledge to help low-income individuals/families, pro bono. I want to preserve people’s rights regardless of race, socioeconomic status, etc “justice for all.” I believe it is important to address poverty and the connection to crime. Advocate for community corrections, drug treatment, access to resources. People who live in poverty and have committed crimes are often trapped in this cycle of debt and the accumulate more debt from fines, court fees, etc. Incarceration isn’t always necessary and I would plan to use prosecutor’s discretionary.
