Team Yardstick Report with Scholarly Research and Decision Matrix

Purpose
Students will gain address a common workplace task, become familiar with common elements of a formal business report, conduct scholarly research, write informational summaries, conduct analytical analysis, and employ collaborative writing best practices while working in a team. Appeals to credibility and logic will both be used while adhering to documentation standards common in the professional life.

Course Objectives
This task reinforces the following course objectives set by the university:
• apply fundamental strategies and techniques of business communication to prepare business correspondence, reports and presentations
• understand the characteristics of business writing style and the essentials of effective document design
• analyze and use contemporary business communication channels.
• exhibit team skills by collaborating with peers to write and present.
• demonstrate literacy skills by producing university caliber and workplace-acceptable documents.

Task
Students will create a longer business message, an informal yardstick report in memorandum format, beginning with an executive summary, and supported by scholarly research on a specific topic. The yardstick will measure job candidates against specific criteria on a decision matrix.
