Movie Reflection
Movie Reflection
Order Description
The world of road narratives in film, TV, video games and other related media is wide and long. It's important that you come out of class with the foundational knowledge outlined in the syllabus; a familiarity with the texts we're reading, watching and discussing; and the ability to write and talk about these texts and the ideas with which we're engaged in a thoughtful and informed way. It's equally important that, at the end of class, you've had the opportunity to explore more fully the vast terrain of road movies, TV shows, video games, fiction and non-fiction.
To that end, you are required to watch six movies from the list below and write a short (two page) reflection paper on each one. Your reflection paper should provide a brief summary of the story (one to two paragraphs) followed by things you found interesting and the ways you see the film relating to things we've watched in class as well as ideas we've discussed and/or found in your reading.
Due date: these are due by the end of the semester (4/28), posted to our BrightSpace page. Don't let these pile up until the last week of the semester.
Points: they are worth a total of 10 points. I'll be looking for breadth (a variety of movies so push yourself out of your comfort zone; watch at least one really challenging movie) and depth (how deeply you think about the movie and how well you watch it through the lens of what we've watched and discussed in class, including the readings). A rubric will be posted on the BrightSpace page.
You may substitute one movie with a TV series, web series, video game, non-fiction book or fictional book (novel, short story, poem). You may also select a movie of your choice but you must discuss this with me first. YOU MAY NOT USE SOMETHING YOU'RE WATCHING OR READING FOR ANOTHER CLASS; THE POINT IS TO USE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE SOMETHING YOU HAVEN'T SEEN, PLAYED OR READ BEFORE.

Read the requirements above carefully and see what's the professor wants.
