Movies, Music and Meaning Order Description   Working individually, and with specific reference to the Class 3 reading by Helen Mitchell (‘Against All Odds: The Decline and Resurgence of the Symphonic Film Score in Hollywood’), students will be required to submit an analysis of a movie of their choice (i.e. a feature film, Hollywood musical, or feature-length animated cartoon), locating the film and its accompanying soundtrack within the historical narrative established by Mitchell. In light of the arguments advanced by Mitchell, your analysis should address your chosen case study by exploring the manner in which music is called upon to signify in its relationship with the moving image. The Paper should be approximately 900 words in length (i.e. no less than 2.5 and no more than 3 double-spaced pages).
