In recent weeks, we have discussed principles of human systems (e.g., language, cognition, reward) that impact observed behavior, and theories to explain behavior (i.e., cognitive theories). In this narrative synthesis, you will be completing a case study of a single behavior. In the narrative synthesis, I will be looking for the following components:
- A description of the behavior/incident/situation (observed during your engaged learning) ( I mentioned the behavior, the lying, at the bottom of the instructions)
The behavior may be a challenging behavior, but it may also be something related to academic performance, management of materials, etc. – ¼-1/3 of a page
The behavior could also be a positive behavior, which would shift the orientation of the assignment. You would still explain the reasons for the behavior, but your path forward may be how to continue to encourage that behavior. - Integration of the principles of behavior, reward, executive function, language, and cognitive theories to describe and explain the behavior and the reasons for the behavior. You do not need to cite sources for these principles and theories, but you must apply them accurately as they have been described in the class and in readings.
- Propose a path forward to help support the behavior given your interpretation. In other words, your proposal for how to support the behavior needs to be consistent, theoretically, with your explanation of the behavior. This could be an intervention directly for the student, an environmental modification, or both.
You must include 2 empirical articles to support your recommendations.
