You are the Navigation and Performance Officer for a Brisbane based charter Company called ‘Big Bucks Aviation’.
The Chief Pilot has asked you to analyse a proposed flight that the company has placed a bid for.
A biohazard laboratory is being set up west of Brisbane and the newly formed parent company, ‘Chemical Are Us’ are the owners. They need a daily service to the facility capable of carrying at least 8 people there, and 8 people back (daily).
‘Big Bucks Aviation’ plans to bid for the work using their two (2) Echo twin piston aircraft.
The Chief Pilot briefs you on the details:
➢ Aerodrome details (located beside the biohazard laboratory) are provided in Annex 1
➢ Meteorological data provided in Annex 2
➢ Planning & performance details for the Echo aircraft are in Annexes 3 & 4
➢ Standard ‘Big Bucks Aviation’ Operations Manual forms are in Annex 5
The Chief Pilot goes on to say:
➢ The CEO insists that we operate strictly in compliance with all CASA rules, however, at the moment you DO NOT need to consider CAO 48.1 flight & duty requirements
➢ We only have two (2) Echo aircraft available for this task. We will operate throughout under the IFR procedures.
➢ The tender states that – to be successful - we need to carry at least eight (8) personnel TO and FROM the site, every day, ALL YEAR AROUND.
➢ There is no use taking 8 personnel TO the site if you cannot bring an equal number of personnel back FROM the site.
➢ To establish this, you will need to check that with the resultant passenger and fuel load, you can land and additionally, takeoff from the ‘Cholera’ aerodrome at the established weight.
