Research and fully discuss what Medline and PubMed do. These sites can be accessed on the NIH website. Be sure to include the following: • How would you use them - remember - find out the search rules of the sites. • Choose two of the selected sites. o report on these two sites; Are they search sites, directories, indexes, LISTSERVs? o describe the purpose and use of the site. • Go to Medline and search on a topic of your choosing o discuss the topic of your search (make it efficient according to the rules of Medline) and report the number of "hits" • Do a similar search using a general search engine (e.g. Google/Yahoo) and see if you get any questionable sites. Compare/evaluate your searches. • How has the availability of health information on the web changed the manner in which we, as nurses deliver health education? *Just because something is on the Web doesn't mean that it is reliable… How would you evaluate a site?
