Nursing models and theories

For this discussion, in three to four paragraphs, contrast two nursing models and theories found in your reading. Discuss how they are similar or different in the way the define/discuss health and wellness, illness, the client, the environment, and nursing. Summarize by selecting the one model or theory that aligns best with your beliefs and then describe how this would affect the way in which you would practice nursing

Florence Nightingale's Environmental Theory and Hildegard Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Model are two of the most well-known nursing models. They were both developed in the early 20th century, and they have had a significant impact on the way that nursing is practiced today. Nightingale's Environmental Theory focuses on the environment as a key factor in health and illness. She believed that nurses should create a safe and supportive environment for their patients, and that this would help to promote healing. Nightingale's theory is still widely used today, and it is especially relevant in settings such as hospitals and long-term care facilities. Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Model focuses on the nurse-patient relationship as the foundation of nursing care. She believed that nurses should build trusting and therapeutic relationships with their patients, and that this would help to promote healing. Peplau's theory is also still widely used today, and it is especially relevant in settings such as mental health and community health. Here is a table that summarizes the similarities and differences between Nightingale's and Peplau's models:
Similarities Differences
Both models focus on the individual patient. Nightingale's model focuses on the environment, while Peplau's model focuses on the nurse-patient relationship.
Both models emphasize the importance of holistic care. Nightingale's model is more focused on physical health, while Peplau's model is more focused on emotional and psychological health.
Both models are still widely used today. Nightingale's model is more widely used in hospital settings, while Peplau's model is more widely used in mental health and community health settings.
If I had to choose one model that aligns best with my beliefs, I would choose Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Model. I believe that the nurse-patient relationship is the foundation of nursing care, and that nurses can have a profound impact on their patients' lives by building trusting and therapeutic relationships. I also believe that holistic care is essential, and that nurses should consider all aspects of their patients' health, including their physical, emotional, and psychological health. If I were to practice nursing using Peplau's model, I would focus on building trusting and therapeutic relationships with my patients. I would also strive to understand my patients' individual needs and preferences, and I would work with them to develop a plan of care that met their specific needs. I believe that this approach to nursing care would be most effective in promoting healing and improving patients' quality of life.
