Planning Care for an Adult Patient (3000-word essay) Title: Planning Care for an Adult Patient This assignment focuses on an adult patient you have looked after in practice and is in two parts. The first part of the essay will be looking at communication and the second part focuses on nursing care. (Try not to focus on the patient’s diagnosis it is more important to think about the nursing problems that they may have such as pyrexia, sleeping problems, pain etc. (max 200words) 1. Choose a patient from one of your clinical placements- Discuss how you have used or seen communication theories used with this patient. Did the patient have any barriers to communication like anxiety, hearing loss, confusion etc? Did you see communication techniques that worked and those that did not. How did you demonstrate respect, empathy and dignity with this patient and what are these concepts. In order to aid this the pillows were positioned …… as per Bloggs (2015) Or Oxygen was administered via nasal specs as suggested by Briggs (2015) to aid comfort for the patient and allow them to continue drinking fluid. Oxygen was administered at 24 percent which was prescribed by the doctors in order to maintain the patients oxygen saturations to 95 percent as per British Oxygen guidelines (2012) (1800 words total) For your conclusions draw together the parts of your essay and highlight in a reflective manner how you have developed as a nurse because of being involved in the care of adult patients while on placement.
