Postsecondary Online Students’ Preferences for Text-Based Instructor Feedback

      In the article "Postsecondary Online Students’ Preferences for Text-Based Instructor Feedback," Gredler (2018) investigates the preferences of postsecondary online students regarding the type of feedback they receive from their instructors. The study aims to shed light on the most effective mode of feedback delivery for online learners. Gredler argues that text-based instructor feedback is favored by postsecondary online students due to its convenience, clarity, and effectiveness in promoting learning. The author further contends that text-based feedback allows students to review and reflect on the comments at their own pace, resulting in a more meaningful and impactful learning experience. This research article provides valuable insights into the preferences of online learners, highlighting the importance of text-based instructor feedback in enhancing the learning outcomes of postsecondary online students. During the revision of my paragraph, one specific resource that helped me was the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). The OWL offers comprehensive guidelines on writing academic arguments, including tips on structuring paragraphs using the MEAL plan (Main idea, Evidence, Analysis, and Link). This resource helped me ensure that each element of the MEAL plan was incorporated into my paragraph, making it a complete and cohesive academic argument. The specific guidance on analyzing the evidence and providing thoughtful analysis strengthened my argument by clearly articulating the reasons why text-based instructor feedback is preferred by postsecondary online students. Overall, the Purdue OWL was instrumental in improving the structure and effectiveness of my revised paragraph.
