Probability and Statistics for Engineers
1. Find out the height of 10 female adults (above 18 years old) in cm randomly and also 10 male adults randomly. (From your friends and family, we will assume them to be a random sample and normally distributed)
2. Using excel find the descriptive statistics of these two samples.
3. Using excel functions (for calculations and for standard normal variable values, student t variable values etc.)
a. Construct, 95% C.I for the mean of both populations (females and males).
b. Can we say that mean for females and males are different based on CIs?
c. Construct a 99% one sided confidence interval for both populations.
d. Find the C.I. for the proportion of people above 170 cm for males.
e. Using the sample mean and sample variance estimates of the population mean and variance, find the 99 percentiles for both females and males.
4. Find the average height of adults in Qatar from internet for both females and males and using the samples
a. Test the hypothesis that Ho: Average height of males is equal to the average height statistic you found.
b. Test the hypothesis that Ho: Average height of females is equal to the average height statistic you found.
