A major purpose of this assignments is to get you to do some ‘deep thinking’
about the assigned reading. A good thing to keep in mind is that this assignment is not book
report; to earn a good score on it you need to reflect on what you learned from the
article and how it relates to what you already knew (or perhaps thought you knew)-not
to just ‘parrot’ the reading.
More specifically your task is to read the article, choose one or two main points
made by the author, and respond to them. Your response may be to agree with the
author or argue against what they stated. However, in either case to earn a good score
you must present well-reasoned arguments for your position. (Simply stating you do not
agree is not a good argument.) Do your best to convince your reader (me) of your point
of view.
