Race/ethnicity, class, gender

  1. How did your race/ethnicity, class, gender and/or any other intersectional identities help/hinder the educational opportunities you’ve had up to this point? ( I am a white American, middle class female)
  2. In addition, discuss and analyze the path you took to get to Saddleback College. In other words, what lead you to enroll at Saddleback College? ( I am pursuing a degree in psychology and registered nursing)
  3. Where do you see yourself in the near future? ( I see myself working as a registered nurse and marriage family counselor)

Consider the following:

  1. What social forces helped you? ( Family & Friends)
  2. What peer supports/social support helped you? (Study groups)
  3. What academic support programs helped you? (Online tutoring and library)
  4. Did you have particularly close relationships with school personnel that helped? (No)
  5. What familial supports helped you? (Lots of support from my parents)
  6. Did your feelings of attachment to school, or any other institution (church, sports, community organizations, etc.) help you? (Yes, my attachment to the love of learning about relationships and helping others helped me with the motivation to achieve my education goals)
  7. And, in the absence of these supports how did you overcome this? (My inner strength to accomplish my goals)
  8. If you feel you didn’t have any major obstacles to overcome, I’d like you to analyze and discuss why that was the case
