Research Project – 100 points – due Unit 8
Those of us in the position of selecting a curriculum model to implement in our program are always in a quandary of which one to choose. In order to facilitate our decision-making process, we need information. For this project, please do not select a content-specific curriculum such as Doors to Discover, Curiosity Corner, etc. For this project, you will select and research TWO early childhood curriculum models of your choice. You will research the models using no fewer than 5 high quality journal, textbook or other scientifically-based, scholarly research articles. For each model you will provide:
• A historical perspective
• A current perspective – where is it being used today
• Alignment with NAEYC’s principle of developmentally appropriate practices
• Methods for inclusion of students with disabilities and modifications for English Language Learners
• Examples of at least four precise teaching strategies that are clear and research-based
• How the curriculum content is taught explicitly and content areas are integrated
• How the curriculum’s implementation insures a mix of child-guided and adult-guided activities
• Research based evidence of the model’s benefits for ALL children
• Compare the models, what do you think makes them similar? What makes them different? Why might you use one model instead of the other?
