Script Analysis Final Project

From the list of plays provided, read the script and do the following.

  1. Given circumstances: Explain each briefly with as much information as you have in at least one
complete sentence, up to a maximum of 200 words. If these are not specified in your play, it is
up to you to decide, as long as you justify your choices from the script.
    a. Geographic location
    b. Date (year, month/season, time of day)
    c. Economic environment
    d. Political environment
Example: The play is set in 2002 in Montreal (p 18). I chose 2002 because the characters referred to
receiving a fax, and none of them has cell phones, although François has a laptop. The play takes place
between January and November. Scene 1 is obviously winter as Léa arrives in a big, puffy winter coat (p
2), Sophie & François have a picnic in Scene 8 (p 22) and it’s chilly but not snowy for the wedding scene
at the end (Sophie is in a fall coat, p43). The characters all appear to be middle class – _not struggling
but not rich either. Robert is a university professor, so I presume he makes a decent living, and François
owns a café. The political and economic environment doesn’t appear to play a large role in the story, but
we can assume it’s stable since it’s in Montreal in 2002.
  2. Sounds: List, in a table, all the sound effect or music, called for in your script (implicit and
explicit). Include page and line number or the event when the cue would occur.
  3. Props: List, in a table, all the props needed, including any associated notes (if a food prop is
eaten, if a candle is lit, if a paper prop gets ruined each show, anything you think might affect
how the props department might need to deal with that item). List only the items required in the
    script (implicit and explicit).
  4. Set pieces: List, in a table, all the set pieces deeded (describe thoroughly anything on stage).
List only the items required in the script, both implied and explicit.
  5. Costumes: List, in a table, all the costume pieces needed as described in the script, both implied
    and explicit.
  6. Lighting: List, in a table, all of the lighting looks and effects as described in the script, both
    implied and explicit.
  7. Focused Design: Choose one element of design (set, costumes, lights) to focus on. You will
