Social Work and Human Services
The current social problem assessment and analysis paper includes seven areas:
a) Identify the specific social problem as it impacts the particular community and the conditions (historical, economic, cultural) of the time that brought it to point of becoming a societal or systemic problem.
b) Provide a description of the current social problem (e.g. poverty, homelessness or lack of affordable and decent housing, lack of affordable healthcare—and COVID-19, unemployment or underemployment, racism/sexism/homophobia, or discrimination).
c) Describe and discuss the ways in which the social problem affects specific groups, and the larger society.
d) Discuss how government and private structures and organizations, through various types of services and resources, seek to ameliorate the problem or eliminate it.
e) Discuss who are the government and private structures’ or organizations’ primary clientele or constituency.
f) Utilize critical thinking skills to explain what were the social, economic, and political forces (including local/state/federal policies) in play that drew attention or influenced the social problem?
g) Discuss social and economic justice issues, existing historical trauma, changing demographics, and other elements relevant to the specific community and the social problem.
h) Based on the knowledge you have gained about the societal or systemic problem, and how organizations have attempted to address it, complete the following:
i. Discuss what you believe are the strengths of organizations attempting to address or solve the problem and areas for growth and improvement?
ii. Using a trauma-informed lens, what recommendations would you offer to improve the overall service delivery system of existing groups or organizations?
