Stakeholder analysis

Conduct a stakeholder analysis.

Use the analysis approach of your selected model and conduct a stakeholder analysis to assess the change impacts.

Describe the methods you used and what you observed from your stakeholder analysis.

Analyze 3-5 stakeholders.

Create a change diagram or model of the inputs and outputs needed to reach the targeted change state.

Align the inputs and outputs to your stakeholder analysis.

Refer to systems thinking research to help illustrate the big picture and interactions within.

Analyze the organization's culture and climate for change.

Describe the organization's corporate culture such as the leadership structure, organizational structure, and internal systems. In other words, what are the goals, roles, procedures, and relationships? Consider the different roles and responsibilities.

Summarize the mission and vision of the organization and how they tie in with the organization's business practices or the way they operate.

Include stories about the organization that supports or conflict with the organization's stated values, beliefs, et cetera.

Assess the organization's readiness for change.

Summarize the stakeholder analysis and organization culture.

Discuss the themes you found from the analysis.

Stakeholder Analysis: Power-Interest Grid

I analyzed three key stakeholders to assess the change impacts of the new EHR system.

Physicians (High Power, High Interest):

Description: This group has immense power due to their influence on clinical decisions and their role as primary users of the system. Their interest is high because the change directly impacts their workflow, efficiency, and ability to provide patient care.

Management Strategy: Manage Closely. They need to be engaged as early as possible in the design and implementation process. Their input is critical for ensuring the system is clinically functional and user-friendly.

Front Desk and Administrative Staff (Low Power, High Interest):

Description: This group has less power in decision-making but a very high interest because the new system will change their daily tasks, such as scheduling appointments and managing patient check-ins. They are often the first to feel the pain of a poorly implemented system.

Management Strategy: Keep Informed. They should receive regular, clear communications about the change, and dedicated training sessions should be provided to address their specific needs.

IT Department (High Power, Low Interest):

Description: While the IT department has the technical power to implement the new system, their day-to-day interest in clinical outcomes is low. Their focus is on technical functionality, security, and infrastructure.

Stakeholder Analysis and Organizational Assessment

To conduct a stakeholder analysis, I'll use the Power-Interest Grid model, which is effective for assessing a change's impact and identifying how to manage different groups. For this analysis, I'll use a hypothetical scenario: a healthcare organization, "Medica Health," is implementing a new electronic health record (EHR) system to improve patient data management and care coordination.

The methodology involved a mix of surveys, one-on-one interviews, and observation. The survey assessed general attitudes toward the current system and the proposed change, while interviews provided in-depth qualitative data on specific concerns and expectations. Observation helped to identify informal workflows and communication patterns. The key observation from this analysis was that while many stakeholders recognized the need for change, there was significant fear about the learning curve and potential disruptions to patient care.
