Studying a group without their informed consent

  Do you think it is ever justified to study a group without their informed consent? What if the study can benefit the group and there is no way to study them except secretly (such as in cases of ‘deviance’)? What if you do not personally agree with the actions and beliefs of the group, such as studying white supremacists?
