Reviewed how many clinicians now use electronic healthcare records. When converting from a paper-based charting system to an electronic system, there are many steps involved to accommodate every disciplines’ requirements. The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a model that shows the steps required to develop an information system. It describes a process. The SDLC shown below has seven (7) phases or steps: planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
The SDLC begins with identifying a need (planning). Next, there is an assessment of what is required to meet the demand (analysis). Then a design is created, and the development of the system can begin. After the system is designed and developed, testing and implementation occur. Once the system has been implemented, the system must be maintained to keep it operational. The process ends when the system no longer meets the current need and planning for a new system must begin. That is why it is called a ‘lifecycle’.
Identify what critical employees, or stakeholders, would be required to give input if a medical office were to start a strategic plan to switch from paper to an electronic health record system using the SDLC.
Select one of the seven phases listed above and explain why you would find that phase most interesting or most important.
In addition, provide 2 biblical examples and compare the SDLC model to spiritual growth in Christ.
