You have been selected to serve on a Texas Legislative Budgetary Committee with the task of allocating 100 million dollars in five spending categories. You will first need to choose one of the four hypothetical districts to represent for this assignment. The district descriptions can be found below. For this assignment, you will need to evaluate the district and constituent needs and decide how to allocate the money in the five spending categories. To determine how the money should be divided among the categories, please look at your district's descriptions. All five categories must have money allocated to them, but the amounts should be based on the needs and expectations of those in the district you represent. You can find more details on what is included in each spending category below. After determining the best way to divide the 100 million dollars, please answer the following two questions for each spending category. You will have in total two paragraphs, 5-6 sentences in length for each spending category.
Question One: Why should the money be allocated this way? The explanation should include why the district needs this funding. In addition, how would this money benefit your constituents, and in what ways? Please explain.
Question Two: What positive or negative impacts would this spending have on your constituents lives? Think of both short-term and long-term impacts and benefits. Please give tangible impacts for those living in the district. Make sure the explanations of these benefits are connected to the district you have chosen.
