Provide a one paragraph introduction to the topic using revisions from the capstone proposal
introduction.
Problem Statement
Revise the problem statement from the capstone proposal to demonstrate evidence of the
problem. Include a level 2 heading for each of these points:
• Local Problem
• Regional/National/International Problem
• Impact on Nursing Practice and Patient Outcomes
Purpose of the Project
A simple declarative statement of the overall goal of the capstone project. Use the
following format: “The purpose of this project is to…”
Conceptual or Theoretical Framework
Include a figure of the model or the conceptual framework. You may have to contact the
publisher to get permission to use a previously printed version. Use the bold criteria as APA
level 2 headings.
Origins of Theory: Identify the origins of the theory or concept of interest
Meaning of the Theory: Discuss the meaning of the theory. For example, include a discussion
on the philosophical foundations/tenants/assumptions of the theory.
Strengths and Weaknesses of the Theory: Summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the
theory.
Congruency of Theory with Current Nursing Standards: Discuss how the theory is congruent
with current nursing standards and current nursing interventions or therapeutics. Look at the
ANA’s Scope and Standards of Practice and the AONE competencies.
Generalizability of Theory: Define the degree of generalizability. Discuss if this theory can be
used in either specific settings or is universal--can be used across settings or a variety of nursing
disciplines). Use citations noting a study and the population they used
Usefulness of the Theory: Determine the usefulness of the theory. Find and cite at least three
empirical studies [research studies - quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods] that have used
the theory to support their research. Do not use meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, review of
literature, concept analysis, EBP projects, or QI project.
Theory Use in this Project: Discuss how the theory will be used in your project (i.e., use key
concepts for keywords in literature review; develop an artifact such as a test, survey, etc.
Definition of Terms
Provide an operational definition of all pertinent terms from the purpose statement and any
additional terms as appropriate. Place the terms in alphabetical order. Bullet each term
defined, and also use italicize and bold font for the term. Use the following format: “For this
project, the following terms are defined…” For example:

are scholarly or from governmental agencies or clinical guidelines.
