Thesis Statement: John Smith, William Bradford, and John Winthrop were great historians and literary writers during the colonial period. I. Early 17th century, John Smith, William Bradford, and John Winthrop searched for new opportunities in the New world. Like the many other Europeans, all threes of them went through trials before leaving England and after they landed in the New World. The techniques they used were all different from each others but, they all endured similar problems exploring the new land. Smith and Bradford both wrote their journeys down in journals. II. John smith was the leader of the first successful British colony in Jamestown, Virginia. a. While leading the early colony, John Smith wrote in a journal about the trails that were encountered on the journey. b.
