Scenario 1: Murder

A person hires a hitman to kill their ex-spouse out of jealousy and anger. The hitman successfully carries out the killing. This is considered murder because the perpetrator intended to cause the victim's death.  

Scenario 2: Manslaughter

A person is driving under the influence of alcohol and accidentally strikes and kills a pedestrian. This is considered involuntary manslaughter because the driver did not intend to kill the pedestrian, but their reckless behavior led to the fatal accident.
