The overarching theme of Historical Styles

The overarching theme of Historical Styles is the evolution of styles through time. For your final Historical Styles paper, you have a choice of three topics. Each topic requires you to think deeply about how styles evolve and how the past continues to inspire designers. This assignment is somewhat longer than your first paper of the semester, and focuses on historical context: the "big picture" thematic material, rather than straightforward formal descriptions. You may want to provide a brief formal description of the interiors or the specific piece within your paper, but the focus should be an analysis of the major themes as assigned below--in other words, use your description to elevate your analysis. I will expect to see an introduction that sets up your topic and interior(s), and a conclusion that ties together the main ideas of your paper. I recommend that you write the paper assuming your reader is a HS II classmate, so you need not explain or define familiar terms and concepts such as "Art Deco" or "veneer."
